Working Hours: 4 out of 7, 28 hours per week (including weekends and public holidays)

Interviews: To be held in person. Location to be confirmed. Interview will take place week commencing 26 January 2026.

Your role of steward will be a Fixed Term position up until 30 September 2026. The likely start date for this role is 01 April 2026.

Come and work in Angus & Dundee, a county of rolling hills and glens along the stunning east coast of Scotland or delve into Dundee City of Discovery. A role that will enable you as part of the Visitor & Community team help visitors create memories to last a lifetime at these fantastic sites.

Arbroath Abbey, your base site, burial place of William the Lion who founded the Abbey in 1178, can you tell visitors what family seals are on the Declaration of Arbroath. At Edzell Castle the home of the Lindsays, a gifted, turbulent and tragic noble family who acquired the estate in 1358. In the 1500s, the family built a brand-new castle – the one we admire today. What do you know about the Seven Cardinal Virtues, Seven Liberal Arts & the Seven Planetary Deities & how do they relate to the gardens of Edzell, can you excite visitors about that? At St Vigeans you may have specialised groups who know more about the Pictish Stones than you do, so what new information can you tell them that they may not notice? Claypotts Castle is a Castle built out of opportunity after the reformation, the Strachans worked the land & were tenants of Lindores Abbey. Are you able to solve modern issues to enable visitors to park easily around Claypotts Castle?

Key Responsibilities of this role

    • Provide the warmest welcome to our visitors and engage proactively with customer service.

    • Process and promote retail and admissions transactions through the till system.

    • Ensure a high standard of presentation throughout the site, following appropriate cleaning processes in both public and staff areas. This will include grounds maintenance and grass cutting.

    • Work as a team to achieve quality assurance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

    • Actively support in HES seminars, events, functions and promotions.

    • Deliver guided tours/talks as part of the core visitor experience.

    • Proactively communicate with colleagues across the site to ensure high performance, standards and consistency.

    • Support the Monument Manager on partnership and community engagement initiatives and projects, including volunteering, weddings and other events.

    • Working together with your monument team to achieve overall commercial performance targets.

    • Promote commercial opportunities within the monument, such as upcoming events and retail products where appropriate.

    • Assist Monument Manager to ensure accurate stock management and assist with stock ordering and deliveries as required.

    • Ensure the security of the site, buildings and contents, including acting as key holder (where required).

    • Ensure that the health and safety of staff, visitors and contractors is paramount at all times and follow correct procedures to ensure safe operation of any equipment
